The Life Cycle of Your Roof

Have you recently purchased a roof and wonder what stage your shingles are at in their life? Maybe a new roof was installed on your house several years ago and you are curious how much longer your roof will last?

Roof’s are continuously in a hostile environment, whether it is from icy conditions in the winter or blistering hot conditions in the summer, your roof never gets a break from the very day it is installed. As soon as your shingles are installed they enter the initial curing stage. In this first stage aging is rapid, your roof will lose many granules, could produce small blisters, and the edges may curl slightly. During Cold weather the curling of shingles may be more prominent and during warmer temperatures shingles may lie flat.

After the Initial stage of curing shingles enter their Mid-life or 2nd stage. In this stage there is slow aging, loss of granules and cracking may occur but at a much slower and less noticeable pace.

Finally after the long mid-life state, shingles enter their declining years, these years are very rapid. Blisters, Granule loss and curling will be very prominent. During this time homeowners are advised to seek estimates for installation of new roofs.
